Yousuf – a case of religious discrimination

Yet again, Muhammad Yousuf has been dropped. He has not been selected for the Twenty20 Tournament in Canada. And guess what Shoaib Akhtar has been included in the team in spite of the fact that he has refused to pay the fine imposed on him and generally his overall conduct has been despicable over past few years.

PCB is spineless and continues to prove that it is an institution which thrives on cronyism and favouritism. Although this blog feels sorry for how Shoaib Akhtar’s career has unravelled, he does not deserve any favours. But he will continue to be selected as he continues to enjoy excellent relationship with the country’s ruling junta and will continue to be above the discipline of PCB.

Now back to the topic. The reason given by the PCB officials for not selecting Yousuf is so odd that it warrants a big laugh.. i.e. Canadian authorities have refused Yousuf a visa….. as if there are no bearded Canadian muslims.

I think it warrants a clarification from Canadian consulate …. it is becoming a habit of PCB to spin the story and blame others for what it does itself.

It is clear that since Yousuf broke the world record of Sir Vivian Richards in 2006 by scoring the most test runs in one calendar year, some PCB officials are running a campaign against him especially since he wears a beard. They have almost made sure he is “stamped” as a test cricketer not worthy of one-day or 20twenty cricket and they are trying their utmost that he eventually retires from cricket. This campaign probably led Yousuf to sign up to ICL.

PCB has anyway systematically destroyed cricket in Pakistan. First by rolling out a dictatotrial constitution and then ensuring that Pakistan does not play credible international cricket. Pakistan has not played a major cricketing nation this year which is at best shameful for the cricket board officials. However they have neither got honour nor any character.  Not sure what the new PCB chief is going to achieve with the current state-of-affairs, probably it will be more of the same.

Let’s again revisit the latest one-day record from Pakistani cricketers (top ten run getters) from Cricinfo( (courtesy Statsguru) for the last two years (to ensure we capture only their current form):

With the highest average and highest runs scored in one-day cricket Pakistan played in the last two years, it is clear that Yousuf should be an automatic selection.

We will not share with you his test record.. as it will be too embarrassing for the corrupt PCB officials.

Readers be the judge… fair or unfair!!!!

Tailpiece:  It seems the Canadian High Commission has probably inadvertantly colluded with the PCB to do the injustice to Yousuf. What good his visa is, if it is granted now…

Read this excellent piece by the Cricinfo Pakistan editor:

September 2012 Update: It is slightly unbelievable that this article was written four years ago and still strikes the same chords. Compared to PCB, now look at Cricket South Africa and more specifically Hashim Amla. Nominated the Cricketer of the year in 2012 and was very unlucky not to get it, his accomplishments and more so acknowledgement of his accomplishments reflect the completely dissimilar ways in which these two boards operate. One strives for excellence, has its issues but tackles them heads-on and values merit. The other (PCB, for avoidance of any doubts), values nepotism, encourages corruption (inherently corrupt due to its structure), wastes talent, disheartens souls and survives purely due to the accomplishments of raw talent alone.

Imran Khan arrested; his sisters beaten badly when they went out to protest

We know that Imran Khan was arrested dramatically after he was trying to lead a student protest.

On Thursday, his party supporters and sisters went out to protest and all were beaten badly including Imran’s sisters..

… This leader (Mushi) says he has empowered women… what a big farce.

Well – it is time for him to go – really go

Here is the news piece from The News:

PTI activists tortured by Punjab police

By By Arshad Dogar and Zubair Azam

FORTY PTI workers, including three sisters of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, were rounded up by police from a peaceful protest demonstration against Imran’s detention at Barkat Market, after a brutal baton-charge and thrashing by plain clothed security personnel, here on Thursday.

The female PTI workers, including Imranís sisters were released later during the night. Imran was arrested by police outside PU on Wednesday after IJT activists kidnapped and tortured him for one hour inside the PU campus.

Mrs. Rani Hafiz Khan, Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan, sisters of Imran, along with PTI office bearers were proceeding towards Punjab University new campus from Barkat Market to protest against the detention of Imran and his manhandling by IJT, when massive police contingents armed with batons countered them.  PTI Lahore president Shabbir Sial and women wing president Saloni Bokhari were also present. The protestors carried banners and placards, hailing Imran and condemning the JI’s student wing. They also chanted slogans against the IJT. The PTI wanted to join a student procession in PU against IJT’s brutality. Meanwhile, more than 200 policemen equipped with batons and firearms under the supervision of SP Model Town Imran Ahmar and DSP Shams appeared and intercepted them. The protestors refused to stop rallying. Police on resistance thrashed male and female protestors and shoved them into a prison van.  In the absence of lady police, male police officials thrashed and manhandled the PTI activists. The lady activists started crying and shouting at their arrest which created panic in the market. The shopkeepers and their clients also came on road after witnessing police brutality. The leaders of trader unions gathered at the spot and appealed to the SP Model Town to leave the market as their business was being affected. Lady activists tried to save the arrests of male activists and formed a cordon around them but plain clothed security personnel bashed them as well. Later lady police were called who arrested more than 20 lady activists including three sisters of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The arrested male workers were shifted to Garden Town police station while women were first shifted to Gulberg police station and later to the Model Town police station.

Sources in police said the Garden Town police have registered a case against 24 nominated male and female PTI workers and 10 unknown workers on the charges violation of section 144, 186 and 188 of PPC. The arrested PTI women were identified as Uzma, Nasim Zohra, Azhar Sajjid, Salma Ejaz, Dr Uzma Asif, Rabia Khan, Sadiqa, Samia Khan, Mrs Rizwan, Munazza Hassan, Talat Naqvi, Professor Shahid Fazal.  In a press statement the PTI spokesman alleged the PTI workers and activists including women had been thrashed on the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi by the plain clothed personnel. He added the brutal police actions would not stop the activists to denounce the autocratic rule of General Musharraf and demanded immediate release of their leader and workers.

Imran Farhat decides to join ICL

Finally something cracked….. Imran Farhat has decided to quit ICC-circuit and join Indian Cricket League – ICL.

Here is a brief summary of his career (from Cricinfo):

” A gifted young left-handed opener who threatened at one stage to solve Pakistan’s perennial opening conundrum, Imran Farhat had a brief spell in the Pakistan side after success with the national under-19 and A sides. Farhat also evokes Saeed Anwar but only fleetingly; he bludgeons rather than times his runs. He was rather too cavalier in his early appearances in the Test arena, and was promptly discarded after the tour to New Zealand in 2000-01. However, he tightened his game and achieved much more success in the 2003-04 season. Tempering his impressive array of shots with better defensive technique, Farhat scored a deluge of runs in the home series against South Africa and New Zealand, being involved in a record four successive hundred partnerships with Yasir Hameed in the one-day internationals against New Zealand. He also notched up his first century in both Tests and ODIs during this season, and then went on to score a vital 101 in Pakistan’s victory against India in the Lahore Test. But since the India series, he has fallen away. A mediocre series at home to Sri Lanka and away to Australia saw him falter, especially with the emergence of the other left-handed opener, Salman Butt. When Pakistan included only one specialist opener in the squad for the series against England in 2005 – Butt – seemingly it confirmed that Farhat, temporarily, was out of national reckoning. But as an opener in Pakistan, you are never out of national reckoning and sure enough Farhat was back for the final Test against India, where he scored a fifty. That performance saw him on the plane to Sri Lanka and an average series. But with openers becoming as rare as dinosuars in Pakistan, he was retained for the summer tour to England, where he again produced some mixed results. Despite failures in the first two Tests, a broken finger and a spate of dropped catches, he came back to score a cavalier 91 in the final, fateful Oval Test. He is Pakistan’s Test opener, for now. He was dropped from the ODI team following Pakistan’s tour to South Africa and was left behind for the World Cup as well as the Abu Dhabi series against Sri Lanka. However, viewing trends in the past, his days in the team are not numbered. ”

It turned out that his days in the team were numbered anyway….

Well.. the only thing we can say here… is Bon Voyage… 🙂

Kumble does the unthinkable…. scoring a 100

India are now at the verge of winning the 3rd test with England after very good performances from all players…. and of all the bowlers.. Anil Kumble has done the unthinkable… scoring his first test century.. well done

He has been one of the top spinners in today’s cricket and shown what determination can do to one…. its a high time English cricket team learns something from India.

Well played indeed!!!

Yousuf dropped from Twenty20 despite in the best form of his life

So they have dropped Yousuf… what a shameful act!!!

It wasn’t so long ago that he broke 20-odd years old Viv Richards record of scoring most runs in Test Cricket in a calendar year…. so long… what do you mean … it was 2006………

this team is going to lose miserably.. not because it hasn’t got talented players.. but because Pakistan Cricket is being run by the corruptest mind of 21st century.

Somehow there is this thinking that Yousuf is a good test batsman… but one-day maybe not so…. is it so… do you really think it to be true…

Lets go to Cricinfo and see who has scored the most runs in One-day International in 2006-2007 season for Pakistan ………….. what … ?? is it Yousuf… you must be kidding.

Here is Yousuf’s status for One-day (2006-2007) season who has scored more than 8000 runs in One-day Internationals:

Mat 13 Runs 453 HS 101* BatAv 45.30

Lets compare these with Yunus Khan’s stats for the same season (no disrespect to Yunus who somehow got selected):

Mat 12 Runs 232 HS 93 BatAv 19.33

Okay….. lets see how our so-called Captain Shoaib Malik has performed in the same period:

Mat 15 Runs 406 HS 62 BatAv 45.11

Not bad… still Yousuf’s come on top… so why he was not selected…………….. is it his appearance!!!! can be — Pakistan is the most discriminative society anyway which is morally corrupt as well (Here I mean secular morals not religious morals 🙂 – surprising isn’t it)

And the sentiment is very eloquently put in this Cricinfo article:

Shame on Pakistan Cricket!!

Kerry Packer Series is back!!!

It has been learnt that seven serving Pakistan cricketers have been offered to play in the renegade Indian Cricket League with contract values from 2 to 8 Indian Crore Rupees.

Those offered the three year contracts include Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Yusuf, Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Razzak, Shahid Afridi and Muhammad Asif.

It might be noted that the organisers of ICL have been offering places to former cricketers and those cricketers who are at the twilight of their ICC cricketing career.

Brian Lara has already agreed to join the ICL whereas Inzimam ul Haq has shown his interest.

…. ICC is in real troubles.

Geoff Lawson appointed Pakistan Cricket Coach

Well after Pakistan cricket team resisted appointment of no non-sense Dave Whatmore, who has a considerable international experience and of coaching South Asian teams, Geoff Lawson has been appointed Pakistan cricket Coach.

It is very interesting and regardless of Lawson’s commitment and professionalism, he has never coached an international side.

He needs to be an authoritative coach and hopefully he will break the myth of an easy-going person. Technical coaching or not this team needs tough discipline which is the foremost reason of its wayward performance in the past.,25197,22081494-2722,00.html
